Clearview Regional HS Cellphone Policy

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This letter is to inform you of an important update regarding the school's policy on student cell phone use during school hours. Clearview is committed to providing a safe, positive, and focused learning environment for all students. To support this goal, an "away for the day" policy for personal electronic devices, including cell phones, will be implemented.

Why the Change?

Recent research and classroom observations have highlighted the negative impact of cell phones on student learning and well-being. Studies show cell phones can be a significant distraction, hindering students' ability to concentrate and retain information. Additionally, constant notifications and social media access can contribute to increased anxiety and stress in young people. Limiting cell phone use during the school day can create a more conducive learning environment that promotes:

Improved Focus and Academic Achievement: With fewer distractions, students can better engage with lessons and achieve academic success.

Enhanced Social Interaction: Encouraging face-to-face interaction can help students develop stronger relationships and a greater sense of community within the school.

Better Mental Health: Reducing the pressure to be constantly connected can help alleviate anxiety and promote emotional well-being.

Please see the following articles related to eliminating cell phones during school hours.

What is the New Policy?

Effective September 4th, 2025, all students are required to keep their cell phones and other personal electronic devices turned off and stored away in their lockers from the start of the school day until the end of the school day. Devices should not be visible or accessible during instructional time, including during lunches. Cell phones may not be accessed in bathrooms or locker rooms. If a student is observed using a cell phone during the school day they will be required to put the phone in their lockers. Additional violations of the new policy will result in disciplinary consequences.

Exceptions to the Policy

If a student has a medical or other emergency reason for needing access to a phone during the day, they should discuss an exception with an administrator and documentation from a medical doctor will need to be provided. In an emergency, parents and guardians should contact the school office directly, and the school will ensure the child receives the message promptly.

How Can You Help?

Cooperation is requested in reinforcing this policy at home and helping your child understand the importance of focusing on education while at school. Please discuss this new policy with your child and encourage them to comply with the new rules. By working together, the best possible learning environment can be created for students.

Your understanding and support as this new policy is implemented are appreciated. If there are any questions or concerns, please contact the school.

Sincerely,

Thomas Jones
