William (Peanut) Gaines, a 1967 graduate of Clearview High School, will be inducted into the South Jersey Track & Field Hall of Fame. While a student at Clearview, Bill set the state record in the 100 yard, 220 yard, and 200 meter dashes. Many of his records still stand after 40 years, including the National Indoor HS record in the 50 meters and the NJ 100 yd., 100 m., 200 yd. and 200 m. hand timed records. He set the world record in the 50 yard dash while still in high school. Bill continued his stellar running career and education at San Jose State, the premier sprinting school of that time. He was the USA Indoor 60 yard sprint champion in 1966, 67, & 68 and was ranked as one of the top USA 100 meter sprinters in 1966 and 1967.
