Jeffrey Datz

Jeff graduated from Clearview Regional High School in 1978.  While at Clearview, Jeff played varsity football for 3 years at quarterback and on defense for which he was selected as All Conference and South Jersey Back of the Year in 1977.  Jeff played varsity basketball for 2 years and varsity baseball for 3 years as a catcher and pitcher.  He was selected All Conference for 3 years and Outstanding Senior Athlete in 1978.  Jeff then went on to Glassboro State College and played varsity baseball for 4 years.  During this time, Jeff was on the Baseball National Div. III Champions and was All Tournament in 1979 and Div. III All America in 1982.  The Cincinnati Reds drafted him in 1981, at which time he did not sign a contract.  He was drafted by the Houston Astros in 1982 and played for 6 years as a catcher and won the Southern League Championship in 1986.  Jeff then signed with the Detroit Tigers in 1990 and stayed in the Majors to the end of the 1990 season.  He then signed with the New York Yankees in 1991 and played AAA in Columbus, Ohio.  Jeff signed as a scout with the Cleveland Indians in 1991-1993 and managed in the "Farm" system for that team in 1994 to 1999.  During this time, Jeff won 3 divisional titles and an International League Championship in 1998.  He was then promoted by the Cleveland Indians to Coordinator of Minor League Instruction, from September, 1999 to present.

Jeff was selected to the Glassboro State College Hall of Fame in 1990 and to the Gloucester County Hall of Fame in 1997.

Presently, Jeff is married and lives in Ohio.
