What Is The Kaleidoscope Profile®

A unique tool that reveals how you prefer to learn and work.

The Kaleidoscope Profileâ is available in two formats. In its original folder-and-sticker format, this colorful survey is easy to give fun to take, and quick to score.Online, The Kaleidoscope Profileâ is convenient to take, with instant scoring. Through this profile you can uncover ways to improve your ability to learn, your communication, your self-esteem, and your confidence as a lifelong learner.

How It Works

A. Online Format

You will see colorful tiles on the screen with short phrases on each tile. The phrases address specific earning or working styles. Simply click on the phrases that hold meaning for you and your selected tiles will move to a new column.Once completed, the computer will tally the results and you will learn your preferred learning and working style. An interpretation is provided with helpful hints about how you can improve your learning and working environment. If others in your school, staff, classroom or work environment take The Kaleidoscope Profileâ online, you will have the added benefit of learning about each other’s styles. This, in turn, paves the way for enhanced communication and other useful applications of the survey results.

B.  Folder-and-Sticker Format

You receive a folder and two pages of colorful stickers. Stickers are printed with well-researched phrases that address specific learning or working styles. You peel off the stickers with the phrases that hold meaning for you and apply them to your personalized folder. Stickers are color-coded, so tallying the results is a snap. The folder becomes part of your learning portfolio. It can be upgraded and retaken at any time.

What does it do?

The Kaleidoscope Profileâ combines three research-backed learning style inventories into one.  It profiles your sensory preferences – what senses kick in when you learn something new?

Visual: you learn best by seeing, watching, reading.
Auditory: you learn by hearing, speaking, discussing, and thinking aloud.
Kinesthetic: you learn while moving, doing things.
Tactual: you learn best by touch and feel, by relationship, emotion.

It reveals your perceptual and organizational styles – how do you organize and store information, and how is information perceived?

Global: you tend to see the "big picture," the whole scope of things.
Sequential: you prefer organizing in a step-by-step, logical way.
Abstract: you prefer symbols, words, numbers, and abstractions.
Concrete: you prefer the real thing, real objects, sounds, and experiences.

...And The Kaleidoscope Profileâ describes your temperament and how you value what you learn.

Intuitive Feeler: values relationship, personal and emotional issues.
Intuitive Thinker: values competence, rational reasoning.
Sensing Judger: values authority, predictability, and usefulness.
Sensing Perceiver: values action, excitement, and competition.

Is it original?

Instruments used as models for the learning and personality areas covered by The Kaleidoscope Profileâ  include Dunn’s Modalities Inventory, Gregorc’s Delineator, and the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator. The Kaleidoscope Profileâ can be considered a second-generation survey and, while its approach is wholly original and includes substantial research, validation, and field-testing, its origins stem from these original instruments and their creators.

How many versions of The Kaleidoscope Profileâ are there?

There are four different versions of The Kaleidoscope Profileâ : one for educators; two for students, depending on grade level; and one for the workplace.
