Board of Education Worksession Meeting

August 21, 2008

 

Call to Order:

 

The Worksession meeting of the Clearview Regional Board of Education was held on the above date in the Administration Building Public Room.  Mr. Michael Riggs, President, called the meeting to order at 7:31 p.m.

 

Statement of Public Meeting in Accordance with the New Jersey Public Meetings Act:

 

It was announced that in accordance with the Open Public Meetings Act (Chapter 231, P.L. 1975), advance notice of this meeting has been provided by publishing written notice in the media, posting notice at the District Administration Building and Township of Harrison Municipal Building.

 

Members Present:

 

Mr. Hughes, Mr. Miller, Mr. Smith, Mr. Trifiletti, Mr. VanNoy, Mr. Wolk, Mr. Riggs, President, Mr. Horchak, Superintendent, Mrs. Cummins, Assistant Superintendent for Curriculum & Instruction and Mrs. Pennell, Business Administrator.

 

Members Absent:

 

Mrs. Atkins and Mr. Betlejewski.

Executive Session

 

Mr. Smith moved, seconded by Mr. Miller, that the Board of Education adjourn into executive session.

 

The motion was unanimously approved.

 

Mr. Riggs read the following resolution.

 

It is hereby resolved that the Board of Education will now go into executive session to discuss all personnel matters including, but not limited to, the following items:  home instruction, substitute employees, extra duty positions and the hiring of new personnel.  Any discussion held by the Board, which need not remain confidential, will be made public as soon as practicable.  Minutes of the executive session will not be disclosed until the need for confidentiality no longer exists.  The Board will reconvene into public session at the conclusion of the closed session.

 

The meeting adjourned into executive session at 7:52 p.m.

Mr. Trifiletti moved, seconded by Mr. Wolk, that the Board of Education reconvene into public session.

 

The motion was unanimously approved.

 

The meeting reconvened into public session at 9:04 p.m.

Summer Guidance Counselor Hours:

 

Melissa Cairone, new HS Guidance Counselor, to work during the summer for 15 hrs. on August 26, 27 and 28 and to be paid at the district curriculum rate.

HSPA Review Session:

 

The following employees to conduct HSPA review sessions (funded through NCLB Grant (Title I):

September 9, 16, 23, 30 – 2:30 to 3:30 – 6 hrs. @ $34.03 = $204.18

b.      LAL - Jessica Datz
September 10, 17, 24, 1, October 1 – 2:30 -3:30
September 6, 13, 20, 27 10:00 to 12:00  – 18 hrs. @ $34.03 = $612.54

c.       Math –
Andrew Sundell - 6 hrs. tutoring/3 hrs. prep – 9 hrs. @ $34.03 = $306.27
Nelson Hall - 8 hrs. tutoring/4 hrs. prep – 12 hrs. @ $34.03 = $408.36

 

Additional Transportation Office Work Hours:

 

Compensating Barbara Heitman for additional transportation office work hours required between July and October 2008 at $11/hr.  This will be added to the pool of hours approved in May that will not exceed 400 hrs.

Bus Driver – Theresa Gillespie:

 

Theresa Gillespie for the position of Bus Driver for the 2008/2009 school year - $18/hr.

Math Tutoring Services:

 

Mike Zappala to provide individual math tutoring services to a student, two times per week @ 60 minutes per session, effective 9/1/08 through 6/09.  Payment to be at the negotiated curriculum rate.

Little Pioneers Program Aide – Pat Stedman:

 

Pat Stedman to work as an aide in the Little Pioneers Program for the 2008/2009 school year at a salary of $15/hr., not to exceed 11.5 hrs./week, with the exception of exam and inservice days (on an emergent hire basis).

Transfer – Patty Arni:

 

Transferring Patty Arni to the position of High School 12 Month Secretary for the 2008/2009 school year at a salary of $33,480 (pro-rated), effective August 25, 2008.

 

Work Study Student – Christina Micoli:

 

Christina Micoli as a work study student in the Little Pioneers program for the 2008/2009 school year.  Salary to be $7.15/hr. and paid out of the Little Pioneers funds.

Work Study Student – Tom Scott:

 

Tom Scott as a work study student in the Technology Department from September 1, 2008 through June 30, 2008.  Salary to be $7.15/hr.

Increase in Work Day – Janet Bast:

 

Increasing Janet Bast’s work day from 6 hrs. to 7 hrs. for the 2008/2009 school year to assist with MD Class dismissal. Revised salary to be $31,042.

Job Coaching:

 

The following staff members to do job coaching ($34.03/hr. - teachers, $15/hr. - aides) to be funded through IDEA funds:

a.       Eileen Barca for student TC 0001182 – 2 hrs./week (individual to be presented at the regular meeting)

b.      Janet Bast for student TC 0000890 – 2 hrs./week (individual to be presented at the regular meeting)

c.       Deana DeNafo and Juli Chini – 2 hrs./week for students TC 0000925, TC0000890, TC0001182, TC0001439

 

Opening and Preparing School Store:

 

Deana DeNafo and Julie Chini to open and prepare the school store for the sale of gym uniforms.  $34.03/hr. not to exceed 6 hrs. each.

Revised Hours for Gym Uniform Sales:

 

The following revised hours for Dan Fellona, Julie Chini, Dena DeNafo to sell gym uniforms ($34.03/hr.):

 

a.       August 18, 2008 – 3 staff members – 5 hrs. each

b.      August 19, 20, 21, 2008 – 2 staff members, 4 hrs. each – 1 staff member, 5 hrs.

c.       August 22, 2008 – Dena DeNafo – 3 hrs.

Gym Uniform Sales During Freshman Orientation:

 

Dena DeNafo and Julie Chini to work in the school store during freshman orientation to sell gym uniforms for 2 hrs./each at $34.03/hr.

Special Ed. PM School Teachers:

 

Angela McEvoy, James Woolbert and Barbara Chambers as the 2008/2009 Special Ed/PM School Teachers.  One teacher per day, Monday/Tuesday, 3:15-6:15 p.m., Wednesday/Thursday 3:15-7:15 p.m. @ $32.50/hr.
